Highly Skilled Migrant Programme
Since 28 January 2002, the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme has provided talented people with exceptional skills the opportunity to come to the UK to seek work.
On 7 November 2006, the Government announced significant changes to the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme (HSMP). HSMP is currently the only points-based immigration route into the UK.
Applicants will be judged against a points criteria designed to better reflect the likelihood of migrants' labour market success and to bring the most highly skilled to the UK, helping to meet the Government's strategic objective to boost the UK economy.
The area’s in which one is now able to claim points are:
- Qualifications
- Past Earnings
- Age Assessment
- UK Experience (work or study)
- Mandatory English requirement (no points scored but a requirement for application)
Our HSMP Calculator has also been updated to reflect the new changes, and we would advise that you use this in the first instance to assess your eligibility.
